<note>Emerging from the life-and-death struggle of the oppressed poor, a radically new spirituality is being born in Latin American Protestantism today. This book amply illustrates that fact, offering an introduction to over twenty Latin American theologians, most of whose work is otherwise unavailable in English.

Authors from throughout Latin America include ten Methodists, three Baptists, four Presbyterians, two Lutherans, one Pentecostal, and three Roman Catholics. In examining various themes - conversion, sanctification, biblical interpretation, Christology, the priesthood of all believers, the Trinity, and others -these theologians offer distinctively Latin American interpretations of the gospel.

The contributors trace the distortions that

occurred in the transmission of Protestant theology

from its original sources Luther and Wesley in

particular and they question whether these

traditions have any relevance for Latin America today. The authors also explore the relationship between evangelization and ecumenical vision in the struggle for liberation.

Because theology in Latin America arises out of "the struggle for life," it is markedly different from North American theology in terms of both direction and results. A unique resource, this book has much to contribute to the life and faith of North American Christians.</note>
